What is Misrepresentation?
Misrepresentation
False, inaccurate or omitted information (unintentional or by mistake) on the application or medical questionnaire.
GOOD TO KNOW
If you misrepresent any information, your coverage or future claim is automatically invalidated and your premium will be reimbursed. Typically found in the ‘general information’ section of the certificate of insurance, the misrepresentation clause discourages dishonesty, but can also put you in a dire financial position if you made a mistake. Look for a policy that does not cancel your entire coverage if a mistake is made. It will cost you more, but you will not have to pay completely out-of-pocket if you need medical care.
ASK BEFORE YOU BUY
Do you have a ‘compassion clause’ that covers me in case I inadvertently make a mistake on my application or the medical questionnaire?
